South Beach Diet Guide:

Welcome To The South Beach Diet Guide

Dear Friend,

If you're wanting to lose weight and are looking for information on the South Beach Diet, you've come to the right place.

Here you'll find a South Beach Diet "Starter's Guide" ... a compilation of facts, opinions, and background information about the diet.

Forums Up And Running Again!

Unfortunately, the web hosting company that this site was hosted with, seems to have gone out of business. They had a backup service, but it didn't do any good, as the hosting company seems to have disappeared into a black hole!

Luckily, I (finally!) managed to restore the forums from a few months ago. Content from the last few months will sadly be missing, but I am pleased to say the years of recipes, etc, are back online!

Enjoy :-)

You might consider me a "success story" of the South Beach Diet.

If that's the case, most of the credit must go to Dr. Arthur Agatston (the creator of the diet) for creating a program that is so easy to follow, and easy to succeed with.

The South Beach Diet is the first diet I have ever tried where achieved success comfortably and easily ... and just as importantly, without going hungry!

My opinion is that any diet will work ... as long as you stick to it.

However, the problem with most other diets is that they make you go hungry ... forcing you to battle against a very strong physiological urge to eat anything you can get your hands on.

If you've ever had nearly starve yourself through dieting by eating only "rabbit food" or alarmingly small quanties of food, you'll know exactly what I mean.

The most brilliant diet in the world will fail if people don't stick to it ... the great thing about the South Beach diet is that it's easy!

The first phase of the diet ("Banishing Your Cravings") is the most restrictive part of the diet, and is said to be the most difficult. However, a group of friends and I all did the diet together,

In summary, some of the key advantages of the South Bearch diet are:

  1. There's no need to limit your food intake - you are able to eat until full
  2. As there's no need to go hungry on this diet, you are not fighting against your natural instincts. Because of this, this diet has a very high success rate, and chances are you'll find it much easier to stick with than many other diets.
  3. Allows greater food choices than low-carb diets such as the Atkins Diet. Instead, a distinction is made between "Good Carbs" and "Bad Carbs" (as well as "Good Fats" and "Bad Fats".
  4. This diet is healthy (in fact, the diet was originally designed for preventing and reversing heart disease, and weight loss is the very pleasing side-effect!)
  5. The food is delicious!

Of course, no diet is "perfect", so it's important to be aware of the following:

  1. Claims like "Lose 13 lbs in 2 weeks" are often touted for this diet. While this may be true, please be aware that most of this weight loss will be from water loss, not fat loss (due to the limitation of carbohydates from the diet). Nevertheless, this water loss looks just like fat loss, giving the dieter a psychological boost, so it's not such a bad thing.
  2. The food required for this diet can be a little costly, and
  3. The food can take considerable time to prepare.

These "negatives" are a very small price to pay for a diet that is relatively easy to succeed with.
